Material is cut by forcing up to 4150 bar of compressed water at high pressure
through a small nozzle (0.08-0.4 mm); energy pressure becomes kinetic energy.
Exit speeds of up to 1000 m/s are reached here, whilst the object being cut does not heat up.
Abrasive cutting
Abrasive particles are added to the water jet
to increase cutting performance,
so that harder materials such as
stainless steel can be machined with ease.
The use of 3D machining also provides
scope to cut shapes of virtually any complexity.
